New Horizons - A cross government programme of action has been launched to improve the mental well being of people in England and drive up the quality of mental health care. The programme will be delivered by ten national government departments which also brings together an alliance of local government, the voluntary sector and professionals, as well as local communities and individuals to work towards a society that values mental well-being as much as physical health.
The new support envisioned in New Horizons will include a network of mental health coordinators in every Jobcentre Plus district to coordinate employment and mental health support, nine occupational health advice line pilots to give advice and support to employers to keep people in work when mental health issues arise, and a review by government of an extension of the Access to Work programme to specifically help people with mental health conditions to get and stay in work.
